Carragher’s ready to play anywhere
ENGLAND defender Jamie Carragher, who quit international duty over his frustration at being overlooked at centre-back, has vowed to play wherever he required at the World Cup.
Carragher, 32, has been enticed back to the England squad after manager Fabio Capello pleaded with the experienced and versatile Liverpool stalwart to end three years of self-imposed exile.
With John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and Ledley King seemingly preferred in the centre, Carragher’s best chance of selection in South Africa would appear to be at right-back. But Carragher has promised to knuckle down and play regardless of the position.
“Centre-back is my best position. I think everyone is aware of that,” he said. “But if you look at the squad maybe the manager does see me playing a different position, which is something I will have to adapt to. Basically, I will just do whatever the manager says.”
