Caution a thing of the past for goal happy Rafa
LIVERPOOL boss Rafa Benitez insists his side will not curb their attacking instincts as they look to continue their goal rush against Fiorentina tonight.
The Reds arrived in Italy for their Champions League Group E clash in ominous form, having scored 24 goals this season already.
And although they are without midfield general Javier Mascherano, Benitez is not about to pull on the reins.
“We are scoring more goals and are not really worried that we have conceded a few more. Our aim is to score goals and win matches, keeping clean sheets is a bonus,” he said.
“This has been a very good goal-scoring start to the season, I’m told the best for over 100 years at this club. But even if you score goals and also concede, then someone will see the negative of that.”
This latest admission would appear to go against the Spaniard’s more renowned, cautious mindset, but Benitez placed a lot of his side’s recent success on the form of striker Fernando Torres.
“Our form has a lot to do with Torres, obviously. In the last three games he has been outstanding,” Benitez said.
“He is on fire at the moment and is a key player for us, but the Champions League is more difficult and he is aware of that. We are creating more chances and there are plenty of options for him.”
Mascherano is suffering from sickness, while in-form midfielder Yossi Benayoun is also absent after he picked up a leg injury in Saturday’s 6-1 demolition of Hull.
