Change to tackling law is agreed
ENGLISH rugby chiefs last night agreed to tweak the rule in tackling in a bid to improve entertainment value in the Guinness Premiership.
The number of tries have fallen 38 per cent to less than three per match this year, prompting officials to meet and discuss plans to make tacklers roll away from those who have already been tackled.
The new directive was tested at the weekend and subsequently produced more tries, so RFU bosses opted to carry it on.
“If teams want to play they should find more space,” said the RFU’s director of elite rugby, Rob Andrew. “To the credit of the clubs that message seems to have reached the players.”
