DNEG
Andrew Gordon has been appointed head of character animation at DNEG, the visual effects, animation and stereo conversion company. Andrew joins managing director of feature animation Tom Jacomb, animation director Troy Saliba and VFX supervisor Philippe Denis in leading DNEG’s rapidly-growing feature animation team, and helping to foster a culture of creativity and innovation. With more than 20 years’ experience in feature animation at Pixar and Warner Bros, Andrew has an impressive credit list that includes many prestigious blockbuster animated franchises such as Ratatouille, Monsters University, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Cars and The Incredibles 1 & 2. Throughout his career, Andrew has received global recognition for bringing to life iconic characters such as Marlin in Finding Nemo, for which he won a VES Award for Outstanding Character Animation in an Animated Motion Picture. Well known among industry peers for creating the secret ‘Lucky 7 Lounge’ at Pixar, a secret room accessible through a small hatch in his office frequented by the likes of Steve Jobs, he will focus on harnessing the DNEG team’s diverse experience and talents to develop a bespoke look and feel for each feature.
The Building Societies Association
Mike Regnier, chief executive of the Yorkshire Building Society, has been elected as the new chair of the Building Societies Association (BSA). He takes up this role with immediate effect. Mike held the post of deputy chair since May 2018 and succeeds Stephen Mitcham, chief executive of the Cambridge Building Society. At the same time, Mark Bogard, chief executive of the Family Building Society has been elected deputy chair of the BSA. From May 2019, the term of office for the BSA chair and deputy chair has been extended from 12 months to two years.
Blackbird
The developer and seller of cloud video platform Blackbird has announced that Dawn Airey joined the board on 23 May as a non-executive director. Dawn is a veteran of the media industry, having worked in television for 30 years, holding senior positions with the majority of the UK’s commercial broadcasters. Most recently, she spent three years as chief executive of Getty Images, prior to which she spent two years as senior vice president at Yahoo’s Europe, Middle East and Africa office, where she led the company’s operations in the region. Prior to joining Yahoo, Dawn held leadership positions at many major UK media companies, including president of a unit of RTL Group, Channel 5’s parent company, and chairwoman and chief executive of Channel 5, where she oversaw all operations.
