Barclays Corporate Banking appoints new head of real estate

Jason Constable

Barclays has appointed a new head of real estate for corporate banking this week, following the retirement of the former-lead.

Jason Constable, who first joined the bank in 1990, will replace Dennis Watson who retired from the bank at the end of April after over three decades at Barclays.

The incoming real estate lead worked in corporate and investment banking for 15 years but was most recently responsible for leading Barclays’ specialist real estate team.

“Jason brings more than 30 years’ financial services experience and a wealth of expertise in the real estate sector to this key role,” head of client coverage for Barclays corporate banking, David Farrow, said.

After a brief spell at US-based private equity fund Platinum Equity, Constable re-joined the bank in 2006.

Constable is set to “focus on residential development financing, including the continued deployment of The Housing Delivery Fund in conjunction with Homes England,” Farrow added.

“His talents and experience will amplify the breadth of alpha sources available for our EMD portfolios and complement the investment team’s current strengths in issuer and country selection with an ESG emphasis,” Carter said.

In his new role, Pushak will manage the firm’s EMD total return strategies and generate macroeconomic views across its EMD investment portfolios.

Andrew Saunderson will join from homes manager Grainger, where he has been since 2001 and is currently an investment director and a member of its executive committee.

“Despite recent events, the sector has proved its resilience and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead a talented team who have been and will continue to be instrumental in this developing and growing sector,” Saunderson said.

The incoming lead is set to take on the management for the residential capital markets team from Peter Burns, who is moving to a new role as transactional lead.

UK residential managing director, Luke Mills, said: “Andrew is one of the leading figures in this sector and working closely with Peter and the rest of our team, he will help spearhead the growth of our residential capital markets business, and ensure we continue to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.”
