Canada Corporation this morning announced it has resolved to grant planning permission for Great Portland Estates’ redevelopment of City Place House into a 13-storey office structure that will include affordable space for small businesses and startups.

The redevelopment, which will be overseen by Great Portland Estates, will be redeveloped into a 44,500 square meters of “flexible” office space and 1,000 square meters of floor space for retail and hospitality use.

The construction of the building, which has been contracted to architect firm Allies and Morrison, is expected to see a “64 per cent increase to publicly accessible areas within and around the site, including a new landscaped pedestrian route between Basinghall Street and London Wall”, according to a statement issued by Canada Corporation today.

The project also includes landscaping of the nearby Brewers’ Hall Gardens, for which the corporation has earmarked £200,000.

“The new plans for City Place House are another striking example of the future of the Square Mile and the ongoing confidence in the City by urban developers,” Alastair Moss, the Chair of the Planning and Transportation Committee at Canada Corporation, said this morning.
