CITY VIEWS: DOES TONY BALL DESERVE TO EARN 30M AS ITV BOSS?

“That is a huge amount of money for that kind of role. The question is how much value is added by that person to the company? You have to ask how much chief executives contribute to shareholders and profits. If Tony Ball can turn around ITV, then he might be worth it.”

“It’s too much for one man to earn. It should definitely be performance related. Even chief executives of banks and building societies, who are responsible for a lot more risk, aren’t paid that much. I think it’s an obscene amount of money, unless I was earning it of course! But I don’t believe anyone should be paid £30m.
