“ I think it’s definitely a lot more confident. Clients are not asking for redundancy cover, and making moves towards more optimistic investments. I feel relatively secure in my job. I think where big bank mergers have happened losses will still come, but all the major bank job cuts I think have happened.”

“I’m not under that much pressure, and feel relatively secure. Maybe that’s because I work for one of the more solid banks. I think the atmosphere is a bit more confident though. In certain areas banks are still recruiting. I know people who have recently been employed by RBS; banks still need certain skilled people.”

“I think the market is probably a bit more confident. There’s definitely some parts of the City which are faring better than others, but some have been terribly hit. I think the big cuts have now been made. The British always overreact and I think businesses have scaled back for the worst-case scenario.”
