Covid pandemic has changed online dating, Tinder boss says

New updates to dating app Tinder will reflect changes in users’ dating behaviour due to the pandemic, moving towards more “holistic” profiles.

Tinder’s CEO, Jim Lanzone, told the BBC: “As we know from the past 15 to 18 months, people have really leaned in to getting to know people virtually, even having relationships virtually, before they take those relationships offline.

“The larger trend here is that people on Tinder coming out of Covid… they just want to slow things down and get to know people first a lot more before they decide to match, let alone before they decide to go meet someone offline.”

Changes to the app will grant users the ability to add videos to their profile and chat with others before matching. They can also use a “explore hud” to choose the type of person they want to find, filtering for specific interests or qualities.

Users will still be able to simply swipe left or right on someone’s profile depending on if they are interested or not.
