Cruisey McCruiseface? P&O launches Boaty McBoatface-esque contest to name new liner with public vote
P&O Cruises announced today that it will allow guests to choose the name of its newest ship, which will be launched in 2020.
In an echo of the famous public vote to name a new polar research vessel Boaty McBoatface, P&O revealed on Twitter that it would pick a moniker for its new ship by similar methods.

While the public voted in favour of Boaty McBoatface, the powers that be decided to go in another direction and the ship was eventually called RRS Sir David Attenborough – although not before the government got involved, with Jo Johnson MP opting to go against the vote while Ed Vaizey maintained the will of the people should be respected.
However, the creators the Boaty McBoatface contest weren't put off by the eventual (and undemocratic) outcome of the vote – they said they would do it all over again.
