Crypto prices drift downwards despite bullish Bitcoin 2022 conference

price of Bitcoin

There were some bold price predictions floating around Bitcoin 2022 in Miami last week, with $1 million by the end of 2022 considered ‘bearish’ by the baying crowd of bulls.

Any thoughts of a $1m value seem a long way off today though, with the Bitcoin price continuing to fall this morning. The market leader has now dropped from highs above $47k last week to just above the $42k mark this morning – a fall of almost 10 per cent over the past week. Can it pick up again?

Other major cryptocurrencies also appear to be heading in a similar direction today, with the price of Ethereum (ETH) also down about 10 per cent over the past seven days to around $3,150.

The falling prices follow statements last week by the US central bank that suggested more aggressive interest rate rises could be incoming, which is also impacting major equity markets as crypto and stocks continue to move in lockstep.

The tech-focused Nasdaq closed Friday down over a percentage point, while the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average also saw falls. The UK’s FTSE 100 index has also opened this morning down. Can crypto disentangle itself as investors seek clarity in an increasingly uncertain economic and geopolitical climate?
