Denmark given extra tickets for Euro 2020 semi-final against England after selling out initial 6,500 allocation
Denmark have been granted extra tickets for tomorrow’s clash with England, meaning there will be almost 8,000 Danes at the Euro 2020 semi-final.
Wembley will have a capacity of around 60,000, the biggest crowd for a British sporting event since pre-pandemic times.
England supporters will still make up the vast majority as their team look to reach a first ever European Championship final.
Denmark were intially granted 6,500 seats for the game but requested more after selling out their full allocation, the Mail reports.
Only Danes who were already in the UK can attend as anyone travelling from Denmark is subject to 10 days of quarantine.
Denmark took 1,000 fans out to Azerbaijan for their Euro 2020 quarter-final against the Czech Republic in Baku on Saturday.
Germany were only given 1,500 seats for their last-16 game against England, although Wembley was operating at a smaller capacity of 40,000.
Coach Kasper Hjulmand this week urged Prime Minister Boris Johnson to remove red tape preventing Danes from flying to London at short notice.
“We hope Boris Johnson wakes up and gives access to thousands of Danish fans, otherwise we have to carry them onto the pitch,’ he told Danish media. “I hope they can come but let’s wait and see.”
England are favourites to win the semi-final and go a step further than at the last World Cup, where they lost to Croatia in the last four.
