Dominic Raab meets with Cambodian officials to discuss trade and COP26
Foreign secretary Dominic Raab has met with his Cambodian counterpart today, as the UK leans towards trade pursuits in the Asia-Pacific region.
In the first meeting with a British foreign secretary since 1953, Raab will speak with Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn in Phnom Penh, the country’s capital.
Raab landed in Hanoi, Vietnam earlier in the week ahead of the series of trade talks which began yesterday.
Cambodia is set chair of the 10-nation bloc Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) next year.
Raab’s office has said he will try and attain “dialogue partnership” for the UK, the closest relationship non-member states can achieve.
“Here to boost trade, support Cambodia’s energy transition, expand UK ASEAN cooperation — and as a force for good in the Indo-Pacific,” Raab tweeted ahead of his meetings.
The UK’s foreign secretary has also met with Cambodia’s environment minister Say Samal to discuss ambitions for the UN’s flagship climate conference later this year, COP26.
