Donald Trump in quotes: The 2016 US presidency candidate’s most controversial opinions and tweets

By: Joe Hall

Donald Trump announced his intention to run for president of the United States in typical style – in the lobby of skyscraper brandishing his name and with boasts such as "I beat China all the time. All the time."

The eccentric host of the US version of The Apprentice is an outsider to win the 2016 Republican nomination, yet in a crowded field the billionaire is polling in the top 10 meaning he could well feature on televised debates and – if his past history is anything to go by – make headlines.

So in anticipation of months of Team Trump campaigning, here's Trump's opinions, spats and controversies in his own statesmanlike words…

Trump on climate change

Trump believes climate change is a "hoax", "bullsh*t" and a lie created by China.

The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 6, 2012

On Barack Obama

It's safe to say Trump isn't a fan. Indeed, after Obama's 2012 victory Trump even called for "revolution" on Twitter. The entrepreneur has teamed up with conspiracy theorists to question the validity of the president's birth certificate.

Let's take a closer look at that birth certificate. @BarackObama was described in 2003 as being "born in Kenya." http://t.co/vfqJesJL

On Obama's mental health

During the ebola crisis Trump expressed concern for his president's well-being:

I am starting to think that there is something seriously wrong with President Obama's mental health. Why won't he stop the flights. Psycho!

On his rivals for the GOP nomination

Rubio and Bush are two of the more fancied Republican candidates:

I laugh when I see Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush pretending to "love" each other, with each talking of their great friendship. Typical phony pols

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 18, 2015

On Work Relationships

Here's what Trump said about the women who competed on The Apprentice:

All of the women on The Apprentice flirted with me – consciously or unconsciously. That's to be expected.

On Russell Brand

If Trump somehow does make it all the way to the Oval Office, he can at least bond with David Cameron over their shared disdain for Russell Brand:

.@katyperry Katy, what the hell were you thinking when you married loser Russell Brand. There is a guy who has got nothing going, a waste!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 16, 2014

On Losers

It's not just Brand. Trump has a real problem with all "losers":

I would like to wish everyone, including all haters and losers (of which, sadly, there are many) a truly happy and enjoyable Memorial Day!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 24, 2015

On Twitter

My twitter has become so powerful that I can actually make my enemies tell the truth.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 17, 2012
