Doubts linger over Donald Trump’s visit to Ireland as White House says date is still being finalised
The White House has not yet finalised if or whether Donald Trump will visit Ireland in November following claims that the scheduled trip had been cancelled.
The White House said Trump will visit Paris in November to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first world war armistice but it was still being decided whether he would stop off in Ireland as part of the trip.
However, a spokesperson for the Irish Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar, told Reuters that the visit had been postponed. “The US side has cited scheduling reasons,” they said.
Trump was due to visit Ireland during the weekend of 10-11 November. He was also expected to visit his golf course in Doonbeg, County Clare.
However, there have been reports that he could be greeted with a number of protests on his arrival, as was the case when he visited London over the summer, when a giant baby Trump blimp was flown over the capital.
