Eduardo fears for Arsenal as Toure seals 16m City switch
ARSENAL striker Eduardo believes the departure of defender Kolo Toure has virtually killed off the Gunners’ hopes of winning the Premier League.
Toure, the last remaining member of the famous Invincibles team from 2003-04, last night completed a £16m move to Manchester City.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has already sold £25m striker Emmanuel Adebayor – also to City – and is ready to let wide man Emmanuel Eboue join Fiorentina.
In return the Gunners have made just one signing, £10m Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen, leaving Eduardo resigned to a battle for Champions League qualification.
Of winning the league, the Croatian said: “It will be very hard, really very, very hard. Now Kolo Toure is also leaving, so I don’t know.
“But of course Arsenal is a club which is always looking for the top spots. I think our main goal will be to be in the top four next season.”
Toure, 28, agreed personal terms of more than £100,000 per week – almost double his Arsenal deal – over four years. He is City’s fifth major signing of the summer, although the Eastlands club also reportedly made an increased £19m bid for Everton’s Joleon Lescott last night.
Arsenal, meanwhile, continued their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 1-0 victory over Hannover 96 last night with Cesc Fabregas netting the only goal.
