Emily Thornberry appointed shadow secretary of state for exiting the European Union

Shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry will also take on the role of shadow secretary of state for exiting the European Union.

Thornberry will take on the role in leader Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet after Prime Minister Theresa May made the new department in her cabinet reshuffle.

David Davis is the secretary of state for exiting the EU, and has become more informally known as the Brexit minister.

In Corbyn's shadow cabinet Barry Gardiner has been appointed shadow international trade secretary, with Liam Fox being the corresponding minister.
