EU referendum odds: Bookmaker says the vote could be the biggest political betting event ever
The EU referendum is on course to be the biggest political betting event ever in terms of money staked, WIlliam Hill has said.
Most polling indicates Remain is marginally in front ahead of the key vote on the 23 June, while bookmakers also place more likelihood on a vote to stay in the EU.
The bookmaker said 63 per cent of all bets taken so far have been for Leave, though 72 per cent of all the money staked had been for Remain.

"The Scottish referendum became our biggest ever political betting event with over £3m gambled on the outcome – and we are optimistic that the EU referendum will top that," William Hill said.
"However, it is also very possible that the US election could outdo both, particularly if we end up with a high profile Clinton-Trump showdown."
In the US election, Trump has become the presumptive Republican nominee, while Clinton is the frontrunner on the Democrat side of the race. Most polling suggests Clinton would win a one-on-one battle with Trump – though Trump himself has repeatedly said Clinton would be a "poor President".
