Euro boost for Spurs as Modric is given the all-clear
TOTTENHAM were last night handed a major boost after Luka Modric was passed fit for tomorrow night’s Champions League clash with Werder Bremen.
It had been feared the Croatian international may had broken his left leg for the second time in 12 months after limping out of Saturday’s 1-1 draw at West Brom.
But despite leaving the ground on crutches, x-rays revealed the midfielder’s condition was not as serious as first feared and he will now travel with the squad to Germany today for their Champions League group match.
“Luka Modric will travel with the squad for our opening Champions League group match with Werder Bremen on Tuesday after x-rays of his left fibula came back clear,” the club said in a statement.
“The Croatia international midfielder was forced off with the injury in the first half of yesterday’s draw at West Brom and will continue to be monitored prior to being made available for selection on Tuesday.”
The news will come as a huge relief to Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, who has already lost England duo Michael Dawson and Jermain Defoe to lengthy injury lay-offs in the last week. The boss said: “We’ve got strength in depth, but you always have one or two players who make the difference to you. Modric makes the difference. In my opinion, he could play in any team, anywhere in the world. He’s a top, top player. He is fantastic. When you lose him, you can’t replace him.
“You’ve got other people who are good players, great players, but he’s a special player.”
