FA Cup final tickets to be cut by £5 each as Football Association responds to growing fan unrest at match-day costs
Football Association chiefs have cut ticket prices for this year’s FA Cup final and semi-finals amid supporter unrest at the growing cost of attending top-level matches.
All tickets for the 21 May showpiece have been reduced by £5 while seats at the two semi-finals in April, which are also held at Wembley, have been cut to 2014 prices.
The FA said it was able to make the reductions because of its “good financial position”, adding: “Lowering the cost of these showpiece matches is in recognition of the strong, continued commitment from fans supporting the world's original cup competition."
The move comes after Liverpool and Arsenal fans forced their clubs to back down over planned price increases or surcharges this month.
Liverpool last week reversed a decision to increase ticket prices next season after thousands of supporters staged a walkout during the 2-2 Premier League draw against Sunderland on 6 February.
Arsenal scrapped plans to levy a surcharge to season-ticket holders following widespread outcry among Gunners fans.
Premier League clubs have faced calls to reduce ticket prices in light of next season’s increase in television income from a guaranteed £60m per year to a minimum of £100m per year.
