Ferrari wait on cap injunction verdict
THE BUDGET-CAP row plaguing F1 will take its latest twist today when French legal authorities announce whether Ferrari’s bid to block the move has succeeded.
The Italian team have applied for an injunction against governing body the FIA’s plans for a voluntary £40m cap, which is set to take effect next season.
Representatives from both Ferrari and the FIA attended an hour-long hearing in a Paris court yesterday. A decision is expected at lunchtime today. The FIA have already announced their intention to appeal if Ferrari prove successful. The sport’s rulers want to make F1 more affordable in a bid to attract new teams.
Meanwhile, Ferrari’s Felipe Massa believes this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix will bring the team’s first top-three finish of 2009, following their worst start to a season for 61 years. The Brazilian lifted morale slightly by coming sixth in Spain earlier this month.
“I believe in the first podium of the season,” Massa said. “After a start to the season we didn’t expect, we’ve improved a lot.”
