This wireless speaker looks and sounds great. It’s at the larger end of the range, but the sleek design means it’ll blend into most living rooms. It performs as well as the Zeppelin Air 200 but costs less, though it’s still going to blow a fairly large hole in your pocket.
Jabra Solemate, £129
This portable Bluetooth speaker isn’t just for music – it can also take voice calls using its in-built microphone. The carry handle and robust design emphasise the machine’s portability, which is a plus, but you might expect better sound quality for the money.
Bose SoundTouch 20, £349.95
Bose was very excited about the SoundTouch 20 when it launched last year, and we can see why. The sound is fuller and meatier than you’d ever think possible from a speaker this size, and with the SoundTouch technology, all your favourite podcasts, music and internet radio are available at the single touch of a button.
NudeAudio Studio 5, £149.95
This stylish device isn’t exactly cheap, but the sound quality is head and shoulders above many of its pricier competitors. Plug in an iPhone or iPod and charge as you play music. Alternatively, connect to a bluetooth device and stream music from that.
Sonos Play: 1, £169
The Sonos Play: 1 has got rave reviews following release. The sound is deep and crisp, with a powerful bass and accurate mid-range. It’s smaller than most of its competitors, with a small price tag to match. A good option to go for if you don’t want to spend the earth but are after top quality sound.
Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air, £499
At an eye-watering £499, you better make sure your Zeppelin Air doesn’t float off wirelessly into the clouds. A lightning connector ensures compatibility with the latest generation of iPods, iPhones and iPads, so whatever your device, you can experience the rich, spacious sound of this industry leader.
Jawbone Big Jambox, £189.99
Self-monitoring specialists Jawbone has made a bold entry into the wireless speaker market with their Big Jambox. It’s a cool looking machine, but the fancy design doesn’t mean Jawbone has compromised on sound. The Jambox can fill the room with music, but it also easily fits into your suitcase.
Logitech UE Boom, £109
The unique selling point of the UE Boom is its ability to project sound at 360 degrees. Place it in the middle of the room and every corner will receive the same full sound. A neat trick perhaps, but who puts a speaker in the middle of the room? Still, at that price, it’s not bad value.
