Finally, the world’s first reversible micro-USB cable is here, from startup MicFlip
Android users, you know the struggle: Trying to connect your phone to a charger in the dark, but always getting it wrong side up.
Well, now you can wave goodbye to that first-world problem, as a company called MicFlip has designed the world’s first reversible micro-USB charger, meaning there is no more “right” or “wrong” way up.
The charger’s guaranteed to work no matter which way you plug it in, as the company writes on its crowdfunding page:
Rather than risk damaging components by accidently forcing standard micro USB plugs in the wrong direction, the MicFlip can be seamlessly inserted at any angle.
Of course, USB woes will eventually be a trouble of the past altogether, as all USB cables will be reversible when the next generation USB 3.0 comes along.
But getting this compatible with all devices will be a slow transition over several years to come, whereas MicFlip is hoping to have cables ready for shipping by next month.
What’s really surprising about all this, of course, is that it hasn’t happened sooner. Apple users, of course, have enjoyed the joy that only reversible cables can bring since the Lightning connector was introduced in 2013.
