NEED TO KNOW | AREA INSIGHT

DESPITE being known as the a go-to destination for foodies, there’s more to Chiswick than its impressive stable of quality delicatessens, greengrocers and top-notch eateries. The affluent west London suburb is one of the top commuter hotspots due to its close proximity to central London and offers large properties and more value for money than prime central London locations.

“There has recently been a noticeable increase in the number of buyers heading west from Holland Park and Notting Hill looking to buy in the Chiswick area,” says John D Wood & Co manager Derek Fletcher. “This is particularly true for large family houses and a contributing factor to why property prices have continued to remain robust in the face of such economic turmoil and uncertainty.”

The range of properties available is vast. High Road and Sutton Court Road are known for their Victorian houses and mansion flats, while beautiful Georgian houses can be found along the river at Chiswick Mall.

“While demand is outstripping supply across the price range, the hottest part of the market is for £750,000-£1m houses, with new families looking to take advantage of Chiswick’s excellent schools and safe environment,” says Charles Lang, associate manager of the Chiswick branch of Chesterton Humberts. “Supply is also constrained for two-bedroom flats, with buy-to-let investors keen to hold assets in a sharply rising market.”

There are many transport options. The district line travels to Turnham Green and Gunnersbury and overland trains can be taken from Chiswick Park station. The A4, which leads into the M4, runs though the area and Chiswick is also very close to the M40 allowing easy access to areas like Shepherds Bush.
