Former England all-rounder Tim Bresnan leads Yorkshire’s revival against Middlesex and eyes swinging pendulum

Former England all-rounder Tim Bresnan is backing the pendulum to swing Yorkshire’s way after his unbeaten knock of 72 boosted his side’s bid to secure a third successive County Championship title.

Yorkshire were wobbling at 53-4 before Bresnan and wicketkeeper Andy Hodd shared a century stand as the visitors ended day two at Lord’s on 235-6. Middlesex had earlier been dismissed for 270 as opener Nick Gubbins advanced his overnight score to 125.

“With the clientele we’ve got in the dressing room we never say never,” said Bresnan. “We’ve managed to win from some unbelievable positions this season and if we can get up to 350 we’ll be in a good position.”

With third-placed Somerset in a strong position to claim victory against already-relegated Nottinghamshire at Taunton, both Yorkshire and Middlesex need to win in order to have any chance of clinching the title.

Middlesex seamer Toby Roland-Jones said: “The first hour [today] is going to govern which way it’s swinging. If we can find some early wickets we can be pretty pleased with our work. It’s nicely poised.”
