France imports UK electricity

France is being forced to import electricity from the UK, after a summer heatwave forced it to close down a third of its nuclear power stations. With temperatures soaring above 30 degrees Celsius, France has had to close down nuclear power stations which use river water instead of sea water in their cooling systems. State-owned energy provider EDF has therefore turned to the UK for additional capacity to keep supply to French homes steady.
