Kyiv talks with US envoys will involve European security advisors, Zelensky says

European security advisors will participate in some of the talks with US envoys on ending the war in Russia in Kyiv on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said as meetings began.


“We are expecting one session of our talks, and then another session will be held with the European NSAs (national security advisors). Several important sessions.”

The ​British, French ​and German national security advisers are ​in ‌Kyiv ⁠on ‌Sunday, a person familiar ⁠with the matter said, ​ahead of ‌talks between Ukraine and US ‌envoys Steve ​Witkoff and Jared Kushner.


The person did ​not ​specify which ​meetings the ​advisers would participate in.

Russia's Lavrov calls accusations of Moscow's involvement in Leipzig drone incident 'start of real war'

Russian ​Foreign ​Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday ​that ‌the ⁠accusations ‌levelled at Moscow by ⁠the West that ​it was ‌involved in the ‌drone incident ​at Germany's Leipzig airport were, "by and ​large, ​the start ​of a real ​war", state news agency TASS ⁠reported.

US envoys Kushner and Witkoff arrive in Kyiv

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Kyiv by train for their first visit to Ukraine for talks on how to end the war with Russia, a day after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. It was Kushner and Witkoff's eighth visit to Moscow during the war, but it is their first in the Ukrainian capital.


Russia's TASS news agency reported early Sunday that Witkoff and Kushner flew to Rzeszow in Poland. Ukraine's airspace being closed since the war broke up in February 2022, TRump's men arrived in Kyic central station by train.


They are due to hold talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky. 

Moscow and Kyiv exchange fire ahead of Ukraine meeting with US envoys

Russia and Ukraine continued to target each other with drone and missile strikes overnight into Sunday.


Moscow launched 108 drones and S8000 Banderol missiles at Ukraine, Kyiv's air force said, adding that it had shot down the majority of the drones and missiles and that 11 areas across the country had been hit by the bombardment.


For its part, Russia's military said that it had neutralised 258 Ukrainian drones fired at Russia overnight. Independent Russian media outlet ASTRA said that a refinery in the town of Riazan had been hit, sparking a fire.


In Zaporizhzhia, Russian drone strikes killed a 74-year-old man and wounded three people, while a drone damaged an apartment building, injuring seven people, in the Khmelnytskyi region, Ukraine's state emergency service said.


In Russia, a man was killed and a woman seriously wounded when a Ukrainian drone struck a vehicle, local authorities in the Belgorod border region said.

Putin's investment envoy hails 'important peacemaking visit'

Russian President Vladimir Putin's investment envoy Kirill Dmitriev posted a photo of US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner leaving Moscow via Vnukovo International Airport on Saturday, hailing the meeting with Putin earlier that day as an "important peacemaking visit".


Dmitriev was part of the Russian delegation attending the meeting.

Moscow says it has not ruled out trilateral meeting between presidents of Russia, US, China, TASS reports

⁠Russia's ​Deputy ​foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov ​said ‌that the possibility ⁠of a trilateral ​meeting between ‌the presidents ‌of ​Russia, the US and China has ​not ​been ​ruled out, ​state news agency TASS reported.


But he said that before moving ​on to the actual ‌preparations for the meeting, it was necessary to understand what ‌its agenda will be.


"Here, the ​main question boils down to how the substance of the meeting ​will be formulated, and ​what we can expect ​as a result."


Earlier this month, Kremlin aide ​Yuri Ushakov raised the possibility of such a meeting between Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump and Xi ⁠Jinping at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit ⁠in ​Shenzen, China, in November.

Witkoff and Kushner head to Kyiv after three-hour talks with Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at the Kremlin on Saturday for renewed talks on ending Russia's war in Ukraine.


The meeting, which lasted more than three hours behind closed doors, ended without announcements of any breakthroughs. Speaking to journalists afterward, Putin’s foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov described them as constructive, frank and useful, but didn't talk about specific outcomes.


Witkoff and Kushner are expected in Kyiv on Sunday. 


Both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have agreed to pause strikes on each other’s capitals while the talks took place.

US President Donald Trump's business partner Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner discussed "substantive plans" for next steps toward ending the Ukraine war during their meeting Saturday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the White House said.


The US envoys "discussed substantive plans for next steps, which will be announced in the coming weeks, and look forward to equally productive meetings tomorrow in Ukraine", a White House official said in a statement to AFP.
