Egyptian forward Salah signs two-year contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor

Mohamed Salah has completed a move to Turkish side Trabzonspor, agreeing a two‑year contract that will pay the 34‑year‑old €17 million (£15.2 million) each season. The deal, announced by the club on Thursday, marks a rare acquisition for the Süper Lig, bringing a player of Salah’s global standing to Turkey at the height of his commercial value.

Salah arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday wearing Trabzonspor’s burgundy and blue kit ahead of a presentation at the Şenol Güneş Sports Complex in the Black Sea city of Trabzon. The contract includes a 20 percent share of revenue from products sold under his name, as well as performance‑related bonuses whose exact structure and ceiling have not been disclosed.

The transfer is a free one; Salah left Liverpool at the end of last season after nine seasons at Anfield. During his time in England he made 442 appearances, scored 257 goals and helped the club win two Premier League titles and the 2019 Champions League. His final campaign was hampered by reduced output, benchings in the Champions League and a public dispute with then‑manager Arne Slot.

Before joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah’s European career began at Basel in 2012, followed by a brief spell at Chelsea and productive loan periods at Fiorentina and AS Roma. The forward quickly established himself as one of the world’s most prolific wide attackers.

Trabzonspor finished third in the Süper Lig last season, securing a place in the Europa League playoff round. The club’s most recent league title came in 2021‑22. Listed on the Turkish stock exchange, Trabzonspor disclosed the financial terms of the signing in a regulatory filing, underscoring the commercial weight of the acquisition.

The arrival of Salah is expected to raise the profile of Turkish football internationally and will test whether his elite production can be maintained in a league that is less intense but physically demanding. His first competitive test with the club will come in the Europa League qualifiers next month.

The move was first reported by the club’s official announcement on Thursday.
