General Election 2015: Conservatives get the backing of 5,000 small businesses

The Conservatives have received an endorsement from 5,000 small businesses across the country, who want David Cameron’s party to get the chance to finish what it started.

The letter, published in The Telegraph, praises the government for:

Their steps to lower taxes, reduce red tape, simplify employment law and get the banks lending.

The coalition, the letter says, made efforts to keep the UK open for business. A Labour government would risk undoing “all the good work of the last five years”.

Labour has accused the Conservatives of abandoning small businesses, overseeing an increase in business rates of roughly £1,500. Chuka Umunna, the shadow business secretary, said Labour would cut the rates and then freeze them.

The signatories amount to around 0.01 per cent of the 5.2m small businesses in the UK, and employ around 100,000 people.
