Grant optimistic West Ham’s luck will change
UNDER-FIRE West Ham manager Avram Grant is confident his players will collect enough points over the Christmas schedule to keep him in a job beyond the festive period.
With the Hammers in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom of the Premier League it is understood that Grant has been given three games to save his job, with the recently unemployed Sam Allardyce waiting in the wings should the axe fall.
But the former Chelsea and Portsmouth boss continues to bang the drum for his underperforming players and insists they have the ability to dig him and the club out of trouble.
He said: “Everyone has been putting in lots of effort on the training pitches and by that I include the coaching and backroom staff.
“No one is taking our position lightly and we are all upbeat for the future.
“We have an extremely positive atmosphere because of the way we have been playing overall. We know the results will come soon enough.”
The one ray of light in an otherwise wretched campaign has come in the shape of an extended run in the Carling Cup.
Birmingham stand between West Ham and a first appearance at the new Wembley, but Grant insists his side won’t be distracted by the upcoming double header against the Blues.
He said: “We will not think about the Carling Cup until the New Year. We have a job to do in the league. That is all that is occupying my mind at the moment.”
