Hamilton retracts claims Vettel’s success is a turn-off for F1 fans
BRITISH driver Lewis Hamilton has backtracked on claims the dominance of world championship leader Sebastian Vettel is sending Formula One fans to sleep.
Vettel won his fourth consecutive Grand Prix in Korea on Sunday and can win his fourth straight world title in Japan this weekend.
Hamilton, who finished fifth in Yeongam, said the Red Bull driver’s omnipresence on the podium was a turn-off for race fans, drawing comparisons with seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher’s period of dominance at the turn of the century.
The former Ferrari driver won consecutive titles between 2000 and 2004 and Hamilton, a teenager at the time, said he used to sleep through the races because of the inevitable result and that today’s viewers would be doing the same.
But Hamilton told his Twitter followers: “Seb is a great champion.
“I admire his dedication and ability to consistently perform without mistakes.
“Regardless of what you and I may think about his car he’s doing the perfect job.”
