Hamilton’s happy after Malaysia effort
LEWIS HAMILTON insists he is happier than ever behind the wheel despite a stuttering start to the new season.
The McLaren ace endured a miserable time in Australia last week when he was caught dangerous driving by police before then criticising his team’s tactics after trailing home in a disappointing sixth in Melbourne.
Hamilton repeated the feat in Malaysia at the weekend but appeared a lot happier having roared through the field from his position of 20th on the grid.
Indeed, the 23-year-old has heaped praise on his team and insists the team can take confidence going into the next race in China in a fortnight’s time. “It is because I am enjoying it,” said Hamilton. “I am enjoying the racing and I have got great support.
“I am very happy with that result. To go from 20th to sixth is a good result for me and I believe it is a good result for my team. It was really a great job by the team and the car was fantastic this weekend. It is a positive thing going into the next race.”
Meanwhile, Red Bull have hit back at suspicions it is running a trick form of suspension to gain an advantage.
The team, who claimed a one-two at Sepang through Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, have been accused of using a compressed gas system to lower the car for qualifying.
Red Bull have consistently denied any wrongdoing and have threatened to protest any team who changes suspension settings for future grands prix.
Team principal Christian Horner said: “We haven’t got one, it is as simple as that. If McLaren have one in China we will protest them, because theoretically they are illegal.
“The FIA had a good look at our car and they are happy with it – they will struggle to find anything because there simply isn’t anything there.”
