Harlequins have been rocked by the tragic death of academy player Seb Adeniran-Olule who was killed in a road traffic collision, the club has confirmed.

The news came days before Harlequins’ European Challenge Cup final against Montpellier in Lyon, where victory in director of rugby Conor O’Shea’s final match in charge would secure a place in next season’s Champions Cup.

Prop Adeniran-Olule, 20, played three first-team matches for Harlequins having joined the club seven years ago, while he also represented England at Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20 level.

“Seb was an incredible talent and had already represented England at under-age level, as well as making his senior debut for Quins at just 20,” said O’Shea. “He will be sorely missed by the whole squad, as well as by the wider club.”

Adeniran-Olule, a former pupil at Whitgift School, made four appearances at last year’s Under-20 World Cup in Italy as England finished runners-up to New Zealand.

“I am devastated. He was a fantastic kid,” said the Rugby Football Union’s national academy development manager John Fletcher. “He was one of the most skilful players in his position I have ever seen.”
