Harrington rediscovering form ahead of Ryder Cup
EUROPE’S Padraig Harrington declared himself ready for the Ryder Cup after banishing some of his putting demons at the Vivendi Trophy.
Three-time major winner Harrington, who needed a captain’s pick to make the team, only just made the cut after taking his recent patchy form into the tournament.
But the Irishman bounced back yesterday by carding the best closing round, a 64 that featured seven birdies and an eagle.
“The week before a big event is all about seeing where your game is at and what needs working on,” said Harrington, who finished joint eighth on 13-under-par.
“I struggled putting earlier in the week and it was sharp today, so I don’t have as much to work on. I am excited to get there and ready to go.”
English rookie John Parry won in Paris with a closing 70 that left him 17 under par and two strokes ahead of Sweden’s Johan Edfors.
Colin Montgomerie, meanwhile, has not given up hope of playing in the Ryder Cup again one day as he prepares to captain Europe against the United States this week.
“I’ve played for 20 years in the Ryder Cup and it’s been a big part of my life,” said Montgomerie.
