Hatton announces comeback and at least one more fight
FORMER two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton has vowed to go out on a triumphant note after confirming he will return to the ring this year.
Hatton’s future has been in doubt since a crushing defeat to Manny Pacquiao in May, but had appeared to be leaning towards one final bout before hanging up his gloves for good.
And although an opponent has yet to be lined up, the 31-year-old Mancunian yesterday announced he is seeking at least one more high-profile contest and will resume training next month. “I’ve decided to make a comeback and have another fight this year, probably round about the summertime,” said Hatton.
“There’s been no opponent or date confirmed yet. But the point is I have made my mind up I am going to have one more fight. I’m going to have one more fight, maybe two more fights – it all depends on the performance of the first fight.”
Hatton added: “We’re looking at the IBF champion Juan Urango, who I’ve already fought and beaten. It’s got to be a top-10 ranked pound-for-pound fighter or a world champion of some sort.
“I’ve boxed at such a high level and I could not have one more fight and people look at me and go ‘he’s just had this fight just to knock someone over and end on top’. I want people to say ‘give Ricky his credit – he finished at the top’.”
