Heathrow backs down on night flights to get third runway off the ground
Heathrow Airport has pledged to reduce night flights, as well as curtailing noise and pollution, in a bid to get its third runway off the ground.
It comes ahead of a widely-anticipated government decision on whether to expand Heathrow or rival Gatwick, due out later this summer.

Last year, the independent Airports Commission, headed by Lord Howard Davies, said Heathrow should be expanded, but with severe environmental restrictions.
Heathrow chief executive, John Holland-Kaye, wrote to the prime minister, saying: “Today, I am proud to submit a comprehensive plan that meets and exceeds your demands. This is a big commitment from us, but it is the right choice for the country, local communities and jobs across Britain."
