HMRC catches just two of 20 most wanted tax evaders in a year of searching
HM Revenue & Customs has published the names and photographs of the most wanted tax-dodgers in the UK. Ten new names have been added to the list this year (above), although just two of the original 20 (below) have been caught and one prosecuted. The tax authority published the data on its Flickr page.
The appeal has helped to provide intelligence on 15 of the alleged criminals, no update on four, and the capture of one, HMRC said. The ten new people have cost the taxpayer between £120,000 and £10m.
Chancellor George Osborne said that the new list would help bring more to justice, but Labour has jumped on the arrest rate to criticise the “huge failure”.
