Hodgson delighted with Torres strike

LIVERPOOL manager Roy Hodgson believes goal-shy striker Fernando Torres may have turned a corner after hitting a vital winner against Blackburn. The Spanish international scored only his second goal of the season in a much-needed victory over Rovers but Hodgson thinks Torres could be about to find his very best form.
“Fernando played well, an awful lot better,” he said. “He was very down when he came back from the World Cup; maybe people do get a bit down when they are constantly criticised left, right and centre.
“He will be very happy tonight and we will need him to score many more goals if we are really going to move into a position in the table where we think we should be.”
Centre-back Sotirios Kyrgiakos gave the Reds the lead on 48 minutes when he powered in a header from Steven Gerrard’s corner.
Blackburn hit back two minutes later when former Liverpool star El-Hadji Diouf’s shot was deflected in via the unfortunate Jamie Carragher – the defender’s seventh career own goal. Torres saved Carragher’s blushes, however, when he side-footed in a Joe Cole cross to secure Liverpool only their second league win of the campaign.
