IAN HOLLOWAY told how he was “bursting with pride” after steering Blackpool to the Championship play-off final and to the brink of a first top-flight return since 1971.
A superb second-half hat-trick from DJ Campbell put paid to Forest’s 20-match unbeaten home record and set up a Wembley final on 22 May with either Cardiff City or Leicester City – the club from which he is on loan.
Ironically, the Seasiders only crept into the play-offs on the final day, finishing nine points behind third-placed Forest in the Championship race.
The charismatic Holloway said: “I’m bursting with pride. I’m so proud of the players, they were absolutely outstanding. I knew and they knew we could score goals and some of the football we played was just fantastic.”
Rob Earnshaw’s twice cancelled out Blackpool’s 2-1 first-leg lead with his brace sandwiching Campbell’s 56th minute effort. Substitute Stephen Dobbie then restored Blackpool’s lead before Campbell struck twice late on to put the tie beyond Forest’s reach.
