Hong Kong Horse Racing Tips: Phantom Falcon looks set to soar to victory under Dylan Mo

LUCK is likely to play a major part in Happy Valley’s trickiest and most competitive race on the card, the six-furlong Craigengower Cricket Club Challenge Cup (1.15pm).

Various form lines for half-a-dozen of the contenders suggests there is only a length between them all, so jockeys and trainers are going to need things to go their way.

Top-weight Navas, with Zac Purton aboard, looks the obvious form horse, especially having finished a close-up fourth behind progressive sprinter Country Star last month and is down in class.

However, Richard Gibson’s gelding has never been the most consistent of performers, with just two wins and one placing from 24 starts.

It may be worth taking a chance with another gelding who also drops down in class in PHANTOM FALCON, who finally showed a glimmer of promise for the first time this season when a close-up seventh over course and distance on Boxing Day.

The last time he raced in a Class4 against similar company he won in convincing fashion from a near identical mark in the ratings, and is reunited again with winning jockey Dylan Mo.

The fast-starting five-year-old is ideally drawn to cause a surprise at attractive odds.

Also keep an eye on lightly-raced PRANCE DRAGON who lines-up in the 2.15pm over six furlongs.

Trainer Tony Millard has freshened up this good-looking New Zealand gelding since he was transferred from Michael Freedman’s stable in November.

The form book says he is closely matched with probable favourite Little Bird on their early season form, and he trialled in eye-catching fashion at Sha Tin recently.
