Hong Kong Racing Tips: Witness with an Explosive chance at the Valley
LEADING trainer, Caspar Fownes, has seen the pendulum swing in his favour in the Trainers’ Championship race.
The Australian, looking for his fourth Hong Kong title, secured a double at Sha Tin on Sunday, taking him to 68 winners for the season and matching his previous best total set 12 years ago.
With his nearest pursuer, John Size, now three wins behind, after 32 consecutive losers, and Fownes making hay with nine wins from his last 43 runners, it’s safe to say the proclaimed ‘King of the Valley’ will have an extra spring in his step when he arrives at the city-track.
Fownes saddles half-a-dozen contenders on the card, and although none look stand-out performers, at least on form, it would take a brave man to expect the stable to go winless through the card.
After getting caught close home recently, fast-improving Icy Legend will be fancied to go one better in the second division of the Port Shelter Handicap (12:45pm).
The opposition looks strong, though, with the likes of Telecom Smart, Winston’s Lad, Ares, and improving Amazement in opposition.
It may be worth, however, taking a chance with the stable’s EXPLOSIVE WITNESS, who is due another win, in the Castle Peak Bay Handicap (3.15pm).
The Blake Shinn ridden galloper, a three-time winner over the course and distance, can be rated much better than his final finishing position suggested at Sha Tin recently and is well-handicapped on his best form.
