Horse racing betting: Beckett can land his first Royal Ascot winner with Chicadoro
Some trainers just seem to have a knack with training fillies and Ralph Beckett is certainly one of them.
He’s won the Oaks twice and also took last year’s St Leger with his filly Simple Verse, although he hasn’t had a Royal Ascot winner yet.
I’m hoping that changes on Thursday afternoon.
CHICADORO has her second start of the season in the Ribblesdale Stakes (3.40pm) and she looks overpriced at 11/1 with Betway, who are refunding bets if your horse finishes second in the race.
This daughter of Paco Boy broke her maiden at Haydock last September over a mile on soft ground.
Interestingly, back in third that day was Architecture, who was runner-up in the Oaks a couple of weeks ago and is hot favourite for this contest.
Admittedly, Architecture was making her debut and has undoubtedly improved, but the same may well be the case for Chicadoro.
She has only had one run since then, an excellent second to impressive winner Swiss Range in the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket’s Guineas meeting.
Much of the talk after the race was how unlucky Even Song was and it’s true that she didn’t have a clear passage.
However, I’m struggling to understand why Chicadoro is 11/1 here and Even Song 4/1.
Perhaps Aidan O’Brien’s filly might be a more natural stayer on breeding, but Chicadoro looked like she needed every yard of the 10 furlong trip at Newmarket.
To me she is a cracking each-way bet. Architecture is the best filly in the race, but she had a hard race at Epsom and it’s difficult to come here just over a fortnight later.
The rest of the field are much of a muchness. John Gosden’s Sovereign Parade is completely unexposed, although this is a tough task on just her second start.
