HSBC cleans up at Standard Chartered Great City Race despite Tube strike grumbles
Bankers braved the heat in Old Street yesterday competing in the annual Standard Chartered Great City Race, raising funds for sight charity Seeing is Believing.
Just under 5,000 runners from 350 City firms took part in the 5km run around the Square Mile.
Not content with winning at Wednesday’s Corporate Challenge with JP Morgan, HSBC’s Lara Bromilow was first to cross the finish line in just 17 minutes 38 seconds. She said: “I managed to find the shade around the course to make the most of conditions.”
Not everyone was happy about the sports day. Senior PwC advisor and former Bank of England policy-maker Andrew Sentance was appalled that roads were closed for the race during the biggest Tube strike since 2002. He said: “People’s routes have been totally disrupted. Frankly I’m staggered to find that City officials have organised the race during strike action and it wasn’t postponed.” Oooooooh!
