I told you I was innocent, insists F1 mogul Briatore
FORMER Renault F1 boss Flavio Briatore has poured more fuel onto the fire of Crashgate by insisting he had no involvement in the scandal.
The Italian is celebrating after his lifetime ban from motorsport, imposed by governing body the FIA following a probe into the controversy, was overturned by a French civil court on Tuesday.
But while the court found the ban to be unlawful, they did not pass judgement on the FIA’s findings that Briatore helped orchestrate a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. Yet Briatore, who is also a director of Championship football club QPR, said he was blameless.
“I am very happy. It’s the first moment of happiness I have had in the last three or four months. I have my dignity back, my freedom back,” said Briatore, who was awarded £13,500 compensation. “If you see the decision of the investigation of FIA it is quite simple: I am not involved at all. That’s all I am allowed to say at this moment. This is what the FIA investigation said as well.”
Briatore has also hinted he may sue Nelson Piquet Jr, the ex-Renault driver who deliberately crashed to help team-mate Fernando Alonso win, for accusing him of planning the stunt.
