Services giant Jacobs to move into new 1,000-worker London Bridge office

Services giant Jacobs Engineering Group is combining its three UK premises to move into a new 80,000 sq ft office in London Bridge.

The US firm, which provided infrastructure for the 2012 Olympics, has secured the Cottons Centre site for the next decade, providing offices for around 1,000 employees working on infrastructure projects.

The site, which looks out over the Thames and is under refurbishment for hot-desking and “imaginative and flexible” working, is set to open during the first half of next year.

The company is merging its three London offices, in Tower Bridge, Hammersmith and next to The Shard in London Bridge, to move into the new space, which will house around 800 technologists, engineers, urban planners, architects and economists.

Morning Wire has approached Jacobs Engineering Group for a cost estimate.

Jacobs employs more than 10,000 people in the UK and turned over $15bn last year globally

It is currently working on the £4.2bn Thames Tideway Tunnel so-called super sewer project, which last week started work on cost-savings after an interim report from the client found “significant engineering challenges” because of the project’s close proximity to two major Victorian gas mains.

“Working with city leaders to meet the demands of growth, we are helping to shape critical infrastructure to improve connectivity and the livelihoods of the public in London,” said Donald Morrison, general manager of Jacobs Buildings and Infrastructure Europe.

“Co-locating our three London operations into this new, vibrant location in the heart of the city will enable us to work and deliver solutions together adjacent to many of the major projects we’re supporting, like the Thames flood risk management and wastewater programmes, as well as strategies for cleaner air, transport development and other infrastructure.”

Last week, the company saw shares fall by nearly 10 per cent to their lowest level since July after missing revenue estimates in its fourth quarter report. Share prices remained steady today at $65.27 (£51.17).
