SOUTH African specialist banking and asset management group Investec yesterday added to its investment banking business with the appointment of veteran M&A adviser Guy Gillett.

Working closely with head of consumer Gary Levin, Gillett is charged with strengthening Investec’s M&A offering, particularly focusing on private companies and private equity clients.

Gillett joins from Ternion Capital, a firm he founded to provide independent advice to entrepreneurs on M&A and capital raisings. Before that, he was an executive director at DC Advisory, where he spent 15 years advising on M&A transactions in the leisure and retail sector.

Investec’s investment banking head Andrew Pinder said: “Not only does Guy bring a wealth of experience in advising the UK’s leading private companies on fundraising and M&A but he strengthens our already excellent presence in the leisure and retail sectors. Guy’s sector focus will complement the dedicated financial sponsor transaction group, which is led by Christian Hess.”
