Jeff and Mackenzie Bezos in record-breaking divorce settlement work $35bn

Amazon chief Jeff Bezos and his ex-wife of 25 years Mackenzie Bezos have agreed the most lucrative divorce ever, worth at least $35bn (£27bn).

The split of the former richest couple in the world will leave Mackenzie the third most wealthy woman on the planet, despite her giving up 75 per cent of their stake in the online retail giant to her ex-husband, the company’s founder. She remains the fourth-largest Amazon shareholder.

Mackenzie has also agreed to cede her interests in the Washington Post and space travel firm Blue Origin.

Jeff, meanwhile, remains the world’s richest man, retaining his 12 per cent stake in Amazon, worth $95.7bn.

In a tweet, Mackenzie said: “Grateful to have finished the process of dissolving my marriage with Jeff with support from each other and everyone who reached out to us in kindness, and looking forward to next phase as co-parents and friends.”

Jeff re-tweeted the statement adding that he was grateful to MacKenzie “for her support and for her kindness in this process.”

Separately, Amazon has filed papers which outline plans build a network of more than 3,000 satellites to provide high-speed internet coverage.
