JP MORGAN Asset Management, the two-century old fund manager, has appointed Roger Thompson as head of its UK arm.

Thompson has been at the firm for 16 years and is moving up to the top job after serving as chief financial officer of its international business since 2003.

A former PricewaterhouseCoopers auditor, who is also European risk head at the asset manager, Thompson is expected to insist on high reporting and accounting standards.

The firm’s European head, Jamie Broderick, said: “Roger has worked on many of the strategic developments in the UK business, and as such brings a significant understanding of our UK operations.”

The appointment follows the resignation of former UK boss Campbell Fleming, who is leaving the firm to join City rival Threadneedle.

Fleming will head up global distribution of the firm’s funds.

NAMED AS JP MORGAN ASSET MANAGEMENT’S UK BOSS

JP MORGAN Asset Management’s new UK boss has a global CV to match the firm’s worldwide reach.

In his sixteen years at the bank, Roger Thompson, 41, has worked in Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan.

The executive heads risk across Europe at the firm, and serves as its international chief financial officer responsible for ensuring that the books balance across the world.

A member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, he has made his way to the top along the compliance and accountancy pathway.

He started his career in investment banking finance, before becoming an auditor at PwC.

Thompson is married with three small children and is partial to the occasional game of rugby. A keen sailor in his spare time, he also coaches his son’s junior rugby team.
