Kennedy to prove he’s a star of the future on Woodford Island
Ascot hosts an intriguing card on Friday afternoon. Alan King will be hoping that Yanworth continues his unbeaten record over hurdles in the Supreme Novices’ Trial (1.55pm). However, with just the four rivals he’s going to be very short indeed.
The conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle (3.05pm) features a really interesting contender in WOODFORD ISLAND, who makes the trip over from Gordon Elliott’s County Meath base.
Elliott has booked promising youngster Jack Kennedy for the ride and he’s already landed some big prizes for the trainer this season.
He was on board Woodford Island earlier this month when finishing an eye-catching second to the progressive Oscar Sam at Punchestown.
Although yet to win a race, my selection is only four and he scythed through the field in the home straight. He looks a winner waiting to happen.
Elliott won’t be bringing him over for the fun of it and I expect him to prove well-handicapped.
The Mitie Novices’ Chase (2.30pm) is a fascinating affair with some potentially top prospects like Le Mercurey and Junction Fourteen.
However, I’m keen on the chances of THOMAS BROWN who was very impressive on his chasing debut at this course last month.
Harry Fry’s team have really hit top gear in the past couple of weeks, the step up in trip will suit and the 2lb he gets from Junction Fourteen is also a help.
BURLINGTON BERT can strike for the in-form Warren Greatrex team in the Listed bumper (3.40pm).
A winner on soft ground at Warwick in May, he will have no problems with conditions and is well regarded at home.
