Kevin Pietersen targeting silverware after re-signing for Surrey

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen believes silverware beckons after re-signing for Surrey to play in this season’s T20 Blast.

The 36-year-old, who initially joined Surrey in 2010, is set to make his return against Essex at the Kia Oval on 19 July and then be available for the remainder of the revamped tournament.

Pietersen has principally been a T20 specialist since playing the last of his 104 Test matches for England in 2014 and has regularly appeared in the Indian Premier League and Big Bash.

“I’m absolutely over the moon to be joining Surrey again,” said Pietersen. “I’ve missed playing here at home and it’s going to be a special feeling walking out at the Kia Oval again.

“We’ve got some seriously talented guys in our team and I’m very confident we can achieve something really special this season.”

Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart added: “His work ethic and appetite for success are infectious and our squad have always enjoyed having him around the dressing room and performing out in the middle.”
